come join me and let's make some amazing art together!

Would you like to create a self-portrait using life's textures and treasures?

Discovering mixed media art and collage was pivotal for me and changed everything. Being able to create with paper and fabrics and other materials, creating texture, creating layers. This was the kind of creating that felt like me, like a part of me that had just been waiting to be woken up.

Once I discovered mixed media, I started taking art class, after art class, after art class.  I spent all my time exploring different mediums, different genres, absorbing everything there was to learn from each artist that I studied with.

At this point I feel like I’ve given myself a masters in mixed media art!

After 15 years as an artist and as a teacher, I have create a course that shares the skills, techniques, processes and knowledge gained from my 15 years of mixed media exploration.

I remember the first time I learned each new mixed media technique and new way of thinking about mixed media creation, I was captivated.  Each one felt like a key that unlocked another part of what I needed to know to elevate my mixed media layers to new levels!

I often get asked about how I create my multi-layered mixed media portraits!

What materials, mediums, paints…and how?

Here are some of the important questions that I have figured out the answers to:

  • How do you integrate the added media into a painting so that it doesn’t look like it’s just stuck on there? With your mixed media it’s important that you’re not using it just to use it.

  • You need to ask yourself: What do you want your final painting to say? feel? show?

  •  I love to add all types of media but I always ask myself:  What does it actually do for my painting or portrait?

  • How do you treat bulkier items to create more of a gradual shift from the item to the rest of the painting?

  • Which type of medium should you use to adhere heavy fabrics and found items?

Master how to add

fabric, vintage finds, textured materials and sentimental goodies into your mixed media art in a way that blends seamlessly with the rest of your canvas?

Learning new skills on your own, with only internet searches to guide you, ends up being a whole lot of trying to figure out how to do it and only a certain level of success.

That’s because we need to go deeper, we need to be able to ask questions and receive feedback.  This type of learning needs to be an exchange of teaching, learning, questions, answers and demonstrations.

I am soooo excited! The spring session of Personal Portraits is about to start! This is your final chance to join the Personal Portraits Workshop. There will be one class a week for 4 weeks, each class will be 2+ hours. We will have meet ups every week for 6 weeks too, where questions can be answered and individual feedback given. We will meet before the first class to answer questions, share information, and ensure that every one is ready for the first class! There will be a final meeting after all 4 classes where we will share our finished work, get feedback and answer any final questions.

It all begins April 6th.

During the 6 week workshop we will connect in our Private Facebook Group and share inspiration on the Personal Portraits Pin Board on Pinterest. We will build a close, support community that will last far beyond our 6 weeks together.

Live Zooms out of your comfort zone?   I get that…

Why not watch the recording on your own, they will be available in the classroom for a minimum of 2 years.  Feel like you will be missing out on the personal feedback?  Send me your questions, requests, art work in progress and I will get in touch with you directly.

On Zoom, as a small group we will gather and work through all of the collage and assemblage techniques that I use to create mixed media portraits.  I will be sharing the heart of what I do, how I do it in a creative journey like no other!

You will learn a large image transfer technique to create a mixed media portrait using a special photo of yourself or your loved one!

You'll receive pre-recorded, easy-to-navigate art tutorials, wellness prompts, and inspiration in the Workshop hub.

“I loved our live lessons and zoom meetings, for me the contact with Delight and the other participants was essential for the joy your class has been given me. Way more fun than only pre-recorded online lessons. It was very helpful to get direct answers to questions that pop up during the lessons. Sharing our progress and struggles of the others was inspiring and educational. It is wonderful to see a comparable process resulting in totally different portraits.

Delight Rogers is very inspiring in her Personal Portraits class. You learn many mixed media techniques and how to combine unexpected materials into a portrait. Delight is a enthusiast teacher and easy to approach for questions. I loved the live sessions very much, it is inspiring to see the portraits of the other participants grow during the creative process. I highly recommend this class!” ~ Lisette
